About Us
At RiverTable.Essex, based in Braintree, Essex, we design and create bespoke live edge resin tables that combine the natural beauty of solid timber with modern craftsmanship. Each piece begins with carefully selected hardwood slabs, chosen for their character, grain and natural live edges, before being paired with high-quality resin to create the distinctive river that defines every table.
Because no two pieces of timber are ever the same, every table we produce is completely unique. The natural movement of the wood, the shape of the live edge and the depth of the resin combine to create furniture that is both striking and timeless. Our aim is to produce tables that celebrate the individuality of natural materials while delivering durable, functional furniture designed for modern homes and commercial spaces.
Our Favourite Timbers
The choice of timber plays a defining role in the final piece. Each species brings its own tone, grain, and personality, shaping the overall look and feel of the table.
English Oak
Quercus robur
A timeless favourite, English oak offers strength, character, and beautifully defined grain. Its warm tones and natural variation make it a versatile choice across both traditional and contemporary designs.
Pippy Oak
Quercus robur (figure variation)
Full of texture and visual interest, pippy oak is defined by its distinctive clusters and figuring. It creates a highly decorative surface, perfect for statement pieces.
Burr Oak
Quercus robur(burr/burl growth)
Rich, intricate, and full of movement, burr oak delivers a truly unique finish. Its complex grain patterns make each piece one of a kind.
Walnut
Juglans regia (European Walnut)
Walnut brings a deeper, more refined tone to a design. Its rich browns and flowing grain create a sophisticated, high-end aesthetic.
Elm
Ulmus procera (English Elm)
Elm is known for its flowing, organic grain and warm tones. It adds movement and natural character to any piece.
Ash
Quercus robur
Clean and contemporary, ash is lighter in tone with a straight, consistent grain. It works well for brighter, more minimal interiors.
Sweet Sycamore
Acer pseudoplatanus
Pale and elegant, sweet sycamore offers a smooth, subtle grain. Its light appearance pairs well with darker resins for strong contrast.
Cherry
Prunus avium
Cherry offers a rich, warm finish that deepens over time. Its smooth grain and subtle variation create a refined and timeless look.
Hornbeam
Carpinus betulus
Hornbeam offers a clean, pale finish with a fine, even grain. Its subtle character delivers a modern, understated look.
Chestnut
Castanea sativa
Chestnut offers a warm, golden tone with natural depth. Its defined grain and gentle variation create a classic, balanced look.
Popular Resin Colours
When it comes to resin choices, there are a number of directions clients tend to explore, but one option consistently stands above the rest.
Black – The Leading Choice
Black remains the most popular option for river tables, available in both gloss and matt finishes. It creates strong contrast against the timber, particularly with lighter woods such as oak. Gloss adds depth and reflection, while matt offers a more subtle, contemporary look.
Water-Inspired Tones
Blues continue to be a popular choice for traditional river effects. Shades such as ocean blue, cobalt, turquoise, and translucent aqua help replicate the depth and movement of water.
Modern Neutral Finishes
Softer neutrals such as smoky grey and semi-transparent tones provide a more understated finish, maintaining contrast while delivering a refined, balanced look.
Metallics and Natural Hues
Metallics including gold, copper, bronze, and silver add movement and light reflection. Deeper greens and rich browns offer a more organic, natural feel.
Clear Resin
Clear resin keeps things simple and timeless, allowing the timber’s grain and natural character to take centre stage.

Our Process
Slab Selection
Every table begins with the careful selection of solid timber slabs, chosen for structural integrity, grain pattern, and natural live edge definition. Each slab is assessed for suitability, ensuring it not only looks exceptional but performs reliably throughout the lifetime of the finished piece.
Preparation
Each selected slab is carefully prepared to ensure long-term stability and a flawless finish. This process includes controlled drying, precision machining, and detailed surface preparation, creating the ideal foundation for resin application and ensuring the integrity of the finished table.
Production
Once prepared, each table enters production, where resin is carefully cast and cured under controlled conditions. This stage demands experience and precision, ensuring clarity, strength, and a seamless bond between timber and resin while preserving the character of the live edge.
Form Creation
Finishing is where the table truly comes to life. Multiple stages of sanding, refinement, and surface treatment are carried out to achieve a smooth, durable finish. Every edge, surface, and detail is worked by hand to enhance depth, texture, and visual impact.
Resin Preparation
Before any table leaves our workshop, it undergoes a thorough quality control process. Every surface, joint, fixing, and finish is carefully checked to ensure it meets our exacting standards for appearance, stability, and performance. This final stage confirms that the table not only looks exceptional, but is structurally sound, correctly finished, and ready for everyday use in its intended space.

Materials & Finishes
At River Table, materials are chosen for performance as much as appearance. Every component used in our tables is selected to ensure durability, stability, and a consistently high-quality finish. We focus on materials that not only look exceptional on day one, but continue to perform reliably over time in real-world environments.
From structural fixings and adhesives to resin systems and surface finishes, each element plays a role in the overall integrity of the table. Our approach is guided by experience, careful testing, and an understanding of how solid wood and resin behave together. This attention to detail ensures that every table feels robust, well-balanced, and built for everyday use, while retaining the natural character and refined appearance that define our work.
Fixings
We use professional-grade fixings and construction methods that allow for the natural movement of solid wood. Where required, C channel reinforcement and threaded inserts are incorporated to support long-term stability and ensure a secure, well-balanced table in everyday use.
Adhesives
All glues and adhesives are selected for strength, flexibility, and long-term performance, supporting the table while allowing the timber to behave naturally over time. We use Titebond adhesives, chosen for their proven reliability in furniture making and their food-safe properties once cured, ensuring suitability for dining tables and everyday use without compromise.
Resins
We use high-quality resin systems developed specifically for furniture applications, offering clarity, strength, and UV resistance. A range of resin colours is available, from crystal-clear finishes to subtle and more expressive tones, allowing each table to be tailored to its setting.
Finishes
Our tabletops are finished using Odies Oil, chosen for its ability to protect while enhancing the natural beauty of solid wood. This penetrating finish brings out grain and depth without creating a surface film, resulting in a durable, breathable, and easily maintainable surface that ages gracefully.

Discover River Tables
Unique furniture created by combining natural wood with modern resin design.
River tables have become one of the most distinctive pieces of contemporary furniture, combining natural timber with resin to create striking centrepieces for homes and commercial interiors. At RiverTable in Braintree, Essex, every table begins with carefully selected hardwood slabs chosen for their character, grain and natural edge.
A river table is created by positioning two live edge timber slabs side by side and filling the gap between them with resin. The resin forms the “river” that flows through the centre of the table, creating a dramatic contrast between the organic texture of the wood and the smooth contemporary finish of the resin.
No two slabs are ever the same, which means every river table produced at RiverTable in Braintree, Essex is completely unique. Each piece celebrates the natural beauty of the timber while incorporating modern craftsmanship and design.
Whether used as a dining table, feature table or statement piece within a living space, resin river tables create a focal point that immediately draws attention.
Live Edge Timber
Natural hardwood slabs chosen for their beauty and individuality.
The timber used to create a river table is just as important as the resin itself. At RiverTable in Braintree, Essex, slabs are selected for their grain pattern, colour variation and natural edges, ensuring each table retains the authentic character of the tree from which it came.
Live edge timber preserves the natural outer shape of the tree rather than cutting it into straight lines. This creates a more organic and sculptural appearance, allowing the table to reflect the natural form of the wood.
Every slab has its own story. Some display dramatic grain patterns and knots, while others feature subtle lines and textures that become more visible once the timber is finished. By carefully pairing slabs together, RiverTable creates a balanced composition that allows the resin river to flow naturally between the two pieces.
The result is furniture that feels both natural and contemporary, combining the raw beauty of timber with the precision of modern craftsmanship.
Bespoke Table Design
Custom resin river tables designed around your space and style.
One of the key advantages of working with RiverTable in Braintree, Essex is the ability to create completely bespoke furniture. Every river table can be designed to suit the exact requirements of the client, from the size and timber selection through to the resin colour and base design.

Bespoke design ensures the finished table fits perfectly within the intended space. Whether you are creating a dining table for your home, a feature table for an office or a statement boardroom table, the design process allows the final piece to be tailored to your environment.
Because every project begins with natural timber, no two tables produced by RiverTable are ever identical.
